it wast the most curious thing, in front of posters of malaysian movie and pop stars was this footage of nestor de villa eating a mango. what surprised me more after entereing the store was the number of pinoy dvd movies in the store, and more curiously that it was of the kristine hermosa - jerico rosales variety.
turned out that pinoy soap is a big hit in malaysia, especially 'sana'y wala nang wakas'. it's being shown on free tv and has a regular following. it's not dubbed though but they use subtitles instead.
what struck me was that i don't remember having seen any malaysian movie, not even in asian film festivals, and that i don't think i'll ever see any malaysian soap played in a pinoy video store.
i mused over this in between swigs of guinness, sometimes i'd return to the drone conversation- IT use by advocacy groups - then slide back to thoughts of asian cinema and tv again, went back....nope... haven't seen any malaysian film.
'the pillow book' at the UP film center ... must!
