i recently went to a radio show in zamboanga city and it was the most multilingual one i've ever been in. bernie, the dxmr radyo ng bayan anchor, did his show in chabacano, tagalog and english, and because he had two Subanon leaders as guests, cebuano and subanon were also used. hanep, babel!
it was not just the language soup that gave me quite a heady spell lately. just 10 days ago i was still breezing through the tanon strait coastal towns of negros, the taste of sweet tuba on my lips. a few days after that, i found myself on a bouncy habal habal ride up the mountains of zamboanga del norte. it was a trip in which i had to move from one place, one sector, one work, one language, one group of comrades --- to another.
in five years, i went bunnyhopping all over the islands of our glorious republic. from 2003-2007, i have moved from manila to mindanaw, lived for two years all over the island before i went back to quezon city where i stayed for less than a year, then back to davao city for a little more then two months, stayed in bulacan after that for just a few weeks, lived in negros for a little more than a year, and now i got myself lost in the streets of nazareth, cagayan de oro.
i would probably never get used to the fact that i live in a place called nazareth. romelus nazarenus.
