MPL wins 1st under-17 girls football title

SAN CARLOS CITY—Boosted by an inspiring performance from its skipper, Muntinlupa-Parañaque-Las Piñas overcame Iloilo, 2-1, to capture the first PFF National Under-17 Girls Football crown before a big crowd at the SJRI ballfield here.

MPL Football Association president Cathy Revilla said their club is overwhelmed with the distinction as the first girls’ Under-17 national champion.

SAN CARLOS CITY — Playing with more spunk and energy despite poor weather conditions, Muntinlupa-Parañaque-Las Piñas and Iloilo came through with runaway victories to set up a titular showdown in the 1st PFF National Girls’ Under-17 Football Championships here.MPL regained its aggressiveness in the second half to beat Negros Oriental, 5-1........

"Endurance was the key to our win. The girls are peaking at the right time," said MPL coach Ernie Nierras, whose team drew goals from five different players, including two substitutes.

Striker Cristina de los Reyes, 12, set the MPL attack in motion with her 5th minute goal but Negros Oriental forged a 1-all tie in the 19th minute with Danillyn Lasin’s 18-yard free kick.

MPL, however, came out with more energy after the re-start. Defender Mica Suarez and striker Isabel Kilayko typified MPL’s ferocious second half assault by scoring from close range in the 46th and 53rd minutes, respectively, while substitutes Leah Cruz and Ayi Mondragon sealed the rout with their goals in the final three minutes.
